Be Patient: The Power of Calm

josedacruz, April 19, 2025April 19, 2025

🧠 Why is patience a sign of wisdom?

Patience is much more than “waiting without complaining.” It shows emotional maturity, inner control, and the ability to assess a situation before reacting. The patient person observes, listens, and breathes. They are not ruled by the emotions of the moment.

Wisdom is not only shown in what we say or do — but also in what we choose not to say or do in moments of tension.

🚩 The Challenge: Controlling haste and irritation

We’re constantly tempted to react immediately when something bothers us — a criticism, a delay, a disagreement. This often leads to:

  • Speaking without thinking
  • Making hasty decisions
  • Damaging relationships impulsively
  • Creating unnecessary conflict

Impatience is often a reflection of a wounded ego or anxiety about control. But it almost always leads to mistakes that could be avoided.

🛤 The Way: Take a deep breath and reflect before acting

Patience isn’t developed overnight, but there are practices that help cultivate it:

💡 Real tips for developing patience

  1. Take a deep breath before responding.
A 5-second pause can save you from 5 hours of regret.
  2. If you are a religous person, pray or meditate in the moment.
A simple, “Lord, give me wisdom right now” can change everything.
  3. Practice not replying immediately.
With messages, emails, or arguments — wait. Give it time.
  4. Identify what sets you off.
Recognizing your triggers is the first step toward controlling them.
  5. Think about the consequences.
Ask yourself: “What could happen if I act right now?”

🌱 The Benefits of a Patient Mind

Developing patience brings real advantages in every area of life:
